Sympathy Pain

Skyler Hitchcox has been crafting trembling guitar-based drone compositions since the early-aughts. Sympathy Pain represents the truest and most distilled version of Skyler’s emotional heft. Striking a balance between death-to-crescendocore post-rock, static-filled droning and skyward guitar lines, Skyler is joined on keys by Cult Leader drummer Casey Hansen, imbuing these two compositions with living shadows and dead reflections.

THE SOUND NOT THE WORD

Shimmering guitars, gentle drones, and sparse drums make up the component parts of their two songs, that feel simultaneously sparse and yet so very warm and comforting.

On Sympathy Pain’s side, the emphasis resides more heavily on mood, with sprawling textures that recall some of the best of Stars of the Lid’s exceptional work. Stylistically, both draw from a variety of sources, ranging all the way from drone to classical to post-rock coming into the mix. Full of delicate textures everything feels so absolutely shimmering throughout the sculpted sounds.
